In Celebration of Patient Participation Group Week

Horizon Healthcare Patient Participation Group 10th -16th June

All General Practice surgeries have a Patient Participation Group (PPG).  We are made up of patients registered with the practice and our purpose is to have a working partnership with all the staff at the surgery.  Our aim is to work with practice staff – doctors, nurses, administrators and others – to help bring about improvements in care and the patient experience.  We are not here to take up personal issues, but to act as a voice for all patients and their carers.

Our members come from various walks of life and bring different backgrounds and experience to the table.

We liaise with other local patient groups, including the Derbyshire PPG Network and Healthwatch Derby.  We are a member of the National Association for Patient Participation (NAPP), which is affiliated to the Royal College of General Practitioners and provides valuable support and information to PPGs.

We have been instrumental or involved in many things, a few of which were:

  • Helping patients navigate the appointment system
  • Assessing the new web site for patient use
  • Feeding back to the Care Quality Commission on how well the practice is doing
  • Fundraising to help buy clinical equipment

The PPG meets once a month for ten months of the year, on the third Monday of the month at 6:00 in the evening.  There is no meeting in August or December.

We welcome applications for new members and are keen to recruit younger people and people from black and minority ethnic groups.  You can register your interest by asking a receptionist for a form or by completing your details on our page in the surgery web site.  A member of the PPG will get back to you as soon as possible.
