From 3 September 2026, your local community pharmacy may be able to help with your blood pressure.
High blood pressure often has no obvious symptoms, but finding it early can help reduce your risk of heart disease, heart attack and stroke.
As part of an NHS service, participating community pharmacies can provide free blood pressure checks for eligible adults aged 40 and over who have not previously been diagnosed with high blood pressure.
Community pharmacies can also provide ambulatory blood pressure monitoring (ABPM) for some patients who need their blood pressure monitored over a 24-hour period.
Could your pharmacy help?
You may be suitable for a community pharmacy blood pressure check if:
- you are aged 40 or over;
- you do not have a previous diagnosis of high blood pressure; and
- you have not had your blood pressure checked within the relevant period.
If you have already had an initial blood pressure check and need further monitoring with an ABPM, your GP practice may also be able to refer or signpost you to a participating pharmacy.
Why use your local pharmacy?
A pharmacy blood pressure check can be a convenient alternative to making an appointment at the GP practice when you simply need your blood pressure checked.
If your reading is higher than expected, the pharmacist can advise you about the next steps and, where appropriate, arrange further monitoring or referral.
