Why Do GP Reception Staff Ask Questions About Your Health?

One of the most common questions we receive is:

“Why does reception need to know why I am calling?”

Our reception team are trained Patient Coordinators. They ask questions to help ensure you receive the right support as quickly as possible.

By understanding a little about why you are contacting us, they can:

✅ Direct you to the most appropriate clinician

✅ Identify patients who may need urgent attention

✅ Signpost patients to services such as pharmacies, physiotherapists or mental health support where appropriate

✅ Help make sure appointments are available for patients who need them most

Reception staff are not making clinical decisions or diagnosing conditions. The information you provide helps us direct you to the right service safely and efficiently.

All information shared with our team is treated confidentially.

Thank you for helping us provide the best possible care for all our patients.
