A PSA (Prostate Specific Antigen) blood test can sometimes help identify possible prostate problems, including prostate cancer.
At Horizon Healthcare, we offer PSA blood test requests for eligible patients without symptoms of prostate disease.
Before requesting a PSA blood test
Please read the following NHS guidance before making a request:
PSA testing and prostate cancer: advice for men without symptoms of prostate disease
This guidance explains:
- the benefits and limitations of PSA testing
- possible false positive and false negative results
- what further investigations may be needed following a PSA result
Who may be suitable for a PSA blood test request?
You may be suitable if you:
- are male
- are aged between 50 and 79
- do not currently have urinary or prostate-related symptoms
- have read and understood the information above
Please request an appointment instead if you have symptoms such as:
- difficulty passing urine
- needing to pass urine frequently
- getting up frequently at night to pass urine
- blood in your urine
- pelvic discomfort or pain
- unexplained weight loss
If you have symptoms, a clinician may need to assess you before arranging a PSA blood test.
How to request a PSA blood test
Until our new PSA request form is available, please use our Contact The Practice form and include “PSA request” within your request. We will send out a questionnaire to you.
Please note:
Submission of a request does not automatically guarantee testing. All requests are reviewed by the practice team before tests are arranged.
